About Malulu

Our Mission Statement

In 2013, Louise Edwards set up Malulu to promote luxury products made by skilled artisans in Kenya.
Louise’s parents lived and worked in Kenya during the 1960s and early 70s.  Although Louise grew up on a farm in England (with dogs, of course!), the seeds of love for Africa were sown at an early age by her parents’ stories of their life and adventures out in Kenya.
These enchanting stories fuelled Louise’s imagination and lured her to Africa so she could experience its magic for herself.  She travelled extensively throughout the continent and worked in both Kenya and Tanzania for craft and charitable organisations.
Through these experiences, Louise came across many forms of high quality products made by skilled artisans.  She also witnessed first-hand how local communities, and women in particular, were empowered by fair wages, good working conditions and sustainable employment.
The luxury dog collars is a happy union of Louise’s passion for promoting high quality Kenyan products with her love for dogs, particularly her cheeky little Patterdale-cross terrier, Minnie May.

These luxury dog collars blend together age old techniques passed down through the generations with a twist of modern practicality.

Ethical trade practices are a keystone to Malulu’s business ethos.  The production of this wonderful ‘dog jewellery’ has created sustainable employment for a rural community in Kenya.

This positive domino effect filters through the local community where the artisans live with their families, educate their children and spend their money with other local businesses.

Customers can know with confidence that with each purchase from Malulu, they are supporting highly skilled artisans and ethical trade practices.

The sustainable employment created from the production of Malulu’s luxury dog collars helps to preserve the skills of talented crafts people for generations to come, and maintain a brighter future for the local rural Kenyan community and beyond.
